POSITION PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of the of the Senior Manager of Event Sales is to lead sales, planning and execution responsibilities for all event clients of the museum. The Senior Manager of Event Sales will actively cultivate new clients through networking and promotion strategies. Further, the Senior Manager of Event Sales must be a strong collaborator to other team members including catering, A/V, facilities, sales and services and security teams. The Sr. Manager of Events Sales will steward existing clients and donors to the museum to maximize overall revenue.

This position is a full-time exempt position. Weekend, holiday, and evening hours are required. This position reports to the Associate Director of Development & Events.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Sales & Marketing

  • Identifies and pursues strategic opportunities for capturing new and enhanced relationships from venue rentals, AV services, catering, group volume ticket sales and membership (individual and corporate) that ensures attainment of institutional goals and ongoing profitability.
  • Partners with DAM Marketing team to develop targeted marketing efforts including (but not limited to) strategic advertising, email solicitation, direct mail preparation, etc.
  • Serves as primary liaison for overall event marketing needs to expedite approvals and ensure execution of all agreed-upon strategies.
  • Works with Development team to cultivate patron and sponsor events in order to ensure deeper relations with current donors and increase overall revenue.
  • Works collaboratively with local partners including Visit Denver, VenuHub, and other convention and destination planners to cultivate large-scale events at the DAM. 

Event Planning & Execution

  • Serves as lead on behalf of the museum for all event clients for the museum
  • As a key representative of the museum, the Sr. Manager of Events Sales will be a leader in all aspects of planning and execution of external events, from upholding the event guidelines and stewardship of the facilities, to client and vendor relations prior to, during and following an event.
  • Maintains expertise on museum event policies and procedures. Closely collaborates with the Museum’s facilities, security, A/V and visitor services departments to ensure safe and smooth operations for events at the DAM
  • The Sr. Manager of Events will lead scheduling/event capacity strategies in collaboration with other museum leaders including COO.
  • Attends prospective client and confirmed client meetings to provide and align on event needs.
  • Proactively communicates with clients to plan successful events and responds in a timely manner to inquiries and requests.
  • Upsell Museum events to enhance visitor experience and Museum profile/revenue.
  • Participates in greeting vendors and clients as needed and transferring relationship to Event Supervisors.
  • Tracks actions with prospective clients, maintaining records of communication and sales history in databases.
  • Ensures efficient and productive collaboration with the catering sales department and its personnel to achieve maximum impact.
  • Leverages museum systems and software to maximize operational efficiency and sales success.
  • Coordinates cross-departmentally with others in support of greater institutional goals.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of public health and safety event guidelines and their impacts on the museum.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and acts in a professional manner at all times.

Department Leadership & Coordination

  • Consistent usage of the Racial Equity Lens in day-to-day operations
  • Yearly goal setting to support Racial Equity Roadmap initiatives
  • Manages External Event Sales staff, including current part time position and will report to the Associate Director of Events and Individual Giving
  • Be a strong collaborator with the museum’s catering department, development department, A/V and operations department to ensure excellent partnership and execution
  • Maintain departmental records and files, including purchasing, invoices, and profitability reports.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills.

  • Ability to self-direct and work independently, while collaborating with the various departments and staff of the Museum.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work on evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Education

  • College degree or relevant lived experience required

Experience

  • Minimum of four years’ experience in event venue sales.
  • Advanced sales and customer service experience.
  • Database experience recording actions and sales and pulling reports.
