Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the overall management and operations of the Marketing and Communications department. Provides leadership in the creation and implementation of internal and external communication initiatives, marketing, and branding endeavors on behalf of and in support of Yakima Valley Memorial (YVM). Creates and strengthens the YVM brand and all associated brands and advertising mediums to meet consumer needs, grow market share, and increase image, preference and reputation metrics in the community.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Advises CEO and senior leadership team on public statements, and on issues affecting the organization.
    2. Develops the corporate, internal, and outreach communications program in collaboration with CEO and senior leadership for YVM.
    3. Leads a high performing and highly engaged Communications and Marketing team.
    4. Directs the strategy and development of all marketing and advertising plans, channels, and media buying for entire organization. Manages the relationship with the agency of record and oversees all advertising strategies, including television, radio, print, outdoor, web, social, digital, video, photography and environmental.
    5. Oversees internal style guide ensuring that it is current and that editorial standards are met in all written materials.  Provides consistent editorial feedback to staff to enhance quality of written work.  Oversees content of employee and community newsletters to ensure appropriate messages, editorial style and delivery methods.
    6. Provides consistent feedback to staff to enhance quality of written, digital, graphic and creative work.
    7. Maintains a good working relationship with the media, assisting in the accurate and appropriate dissemination of hospital and clinic information.
    8. Coordinates and integrates policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.
    9. Supports strategic values of YVM through comprehensive community and media relations programs.
    10. Provides community relations counsel, editorial services, and crisis planning and response for key strategic initiatives, programs, special projects, events and/or breaking news or potential crisis.
    11. Ensures a positive and cohesive public image through various collateral materials, internal publications, websites and employee communications.
    12. Prepares department budget and manage financial performance within established guidelines.
    13. Creates, implements, and oversees communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products.
    14. Oversees content of employee and community newsletters to ensure appropriate messages, editorial style and delivery methods.
    15. Represents the Communications Department on appropriate committees as a visible and active member.
    16. Oversees the YVM brand’s positive and cohesive public image through various collateral materials, internal publications, websites and employee communications.
    17. Maintains a good working relationship with the internal and external stakeholders, assisting in the accurate and appropriate dissemination of YVM information.
    18. Provides leadership to internal and external groups in developing communication plans and messages.
    19. Manages the implementation and deployment of strategic and integrated marketing and communications plans (external and internal) that clearly articulate the mission, vision and values of YVM.
    20. Leads ongoing internal communications program, including the development and dissemination of publications, events and news, proactive and reactive communications for YVM.
    21. Evaluates the big picture and develops strategic action plans for short and long term implementations.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field required.

Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in communications, marketing, or public and media relations experience required. 5 years of leadership experience required. Healthcare experience preferred. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) preferred.
