Description

The University of Michigan, Department of Cardiac Surgery, Section of Adult Cardiac Surgery is seeking a full-time cardiac surgeon on the Clinical Track with responsibilities at University of Michigan Health-West in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Rank will be determined based on qualifications.  The ideal candidate will have excellent clinical skills, a collaborative approach to patient care ensuring the highest quality and safety with key partners in the West Michigan Cardiovascular Network, and an interest in participating in our educational mission.  The surgeon will be an integral part of an expanding program with a joint operating agreement with Trinity Health and responsible for the preoperative evaluation, operative care, and the postoperative care of cardiac and thoracic surgical patients within this Network. On-call coverage is required and will be shared with fellow faculty. University of Michigan Health-West is a non-profit health care system serving Grand Rapids and the surrounding communities. 

Required Qualifications and Desired Attributes

The preferred candidate will have an MD or DO degree and will have completed an ACGME-accredited thoracic surgery residency and should be proficient in all such aspects of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery including minimally invasive and transcatheter skills.  The candidate must have demonstrated examples of exceptional communication skills, teamwork, program development, and mentorship.  Evidence of clinical competence is expected.  A current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia is required.

Applicants should be Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery (or board eligible for new graduates.)
